The internet and associated digital technolgy is being used to help preserve and disemminate Tibetan culture, in particular the Buddhism of Tibet.
Roberto Battista is promoting a Trans Himalaya Communication project that is intended to: 'organise an expedition crossing the Himalayas, from India into Tibet. Using a light multimedia workstation [that] would collect audio visual information along the way. A Web site, set up before leaving, would be used as a "live window" to display the information gathered during the journey.'
The Nitartha International has a sophisticated project to input Tibetan books in digital form. They also make available Tibetan fonts and Tibetan word processing software.
There are several Tibetan dictionaries online such as the Rangjung Yeshe and the Nitartha dictionary which provides access via the Wylie transliteration conventions to the Rangjung Yeshe dictionary.
